The Surreyworms Bookclub started in January of 2015 and is a monthly tradition for neighbors to gather and share their thoughts and expressions about literature. We are always open to new members and would be happy to have you attend our next meeting. It is a great opportunity to get out of the house, meet new neighbors and expand your mind.
Last month we read Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah. A modern day fairytale, complete with an infallible father, wicked mother and two sisters struggling to overcome their differences. It was an emotional read, full of surprises and discoveries. Experience life on an apple orchard, war-torn Russia during World War II and the dynamics of a dysfunctional family trying to reconnect. It’s not often we all agree, but this read comes highly recommended by our club.
Next Bookclub Meeting- In February we will be reading Run by Ann Patchett. We will meet on February 28, at 6:30pm. Please email Haley Glynn if you are interested in attending firstname.lastname@example.org.
GoodReads Synopsis of Run: Since their mother’s death, Tip and Teddy Doyle have been raised by their loving, possessive, and ambitious father. As the former mayor of Boston, Bernard Doyle wants to see his sons in politics, a dream the boys have never shared. But when an argument in a blinding New England snowstorm inadvertently causes an accident that involves a stranger and her child, all Bernard Doyle cares about is his ability to keep his children—all his children—safe.
The annual Surreywood Eggstravaganza will be held on Saturday, April 15 at 2:00pm, at the playground. All kids are welcome- your kids, your nieces and nephews, friends, grandchildren, etc. Please plan to arrive 15 minutes early so you don’t miss out on the fun. There will be lite refreshments served before and after the egg hunt.
We will be accepting candy donations (no chocolate please, as it tends to melt) between March 30 – April 13. Candy can be dropped off at 2257 Lake Surrey Drive; there will be a bin on the front porch during the collection time period. Call for Volunteers: We will be hosting an egg stuffing party on Thursday, April 13 at 7:00pm, to stuff approximately 500 eggs. Please let Haley Glynn know if you are available to help stuff email@example.com.
Nominate an Eggtraordinary Family– Last year, we “egged” (candy stuffed eggs) the front yards of 10 deserving families who contribute positively to the neighborhood. We received such phenomenal feedback that this will be an annual tradition. Please consider nominating a household for the 2017 Egging. If you have an eggtraordinary neighbor please email Haley Glynn (firstname.lastname@example.org) with the following information:
- Name of nominated family
- Paragraph describing why this family is so Eggtraordinary
Email Haley by April 8. A judging panel will select the 10 best nominations and egg the houses late on the evening of April 14, so the winning families wake up to the surprise on Saturday morning. We are looking forward to hearing all about the eggstravagant things our neighbors have been up to!
